


| Beautifully hand-painted tokkuri. The detail here is really nice. A soldier is holding a Japanese battle flag among some trees, bushes, and hills. In the distance a small Japanese flag flies from among the shrubbery. The soldier may have battle tears in the shoulder area, but maybe that is just part of the uniform. Around his torso is what appears to be another Japanese flag. Near one of his feet are two red squares that are probably the artist's signature. The tokkuri is hexagon-shaped, which is somewhat uncommon. Age unknown (no inscriptions) but I would guess from 1894 to 1905. |
