Here is a very interesting, one-of-a-kind cup with what is most
certainly a decapitated head of a Russian soldier. Note the
bloody neck. I had originally thought it was a portrait of the cup
owner, but the angle of the head and the red spurts convinced
me that it is not. Thanks, Alex, for helping me out on this one!

The characters read 'Expedition to Russia Commemorative,
Celebration, Infantry, Sergeant [personal name that I cannot
read] .'

From the Russo-Japan War of 1904-5.
Extremely scarce General Nogi metal sake cup with
gold wash. Around the famous general are the
common Imperial symbols, mums and paulonia
leaves.  Inscribed on the reverse 'Meiji 37-8 [1904-5]
Years War, Departure to Russia, Victorious Return
Commemorative'.
