MEDIC UNITS
The most common kanji
on medic cups: EI-SEI-BU
(read from the right).
Often preceded by
RIKU-GUN (Army).
The main symbol or emblem on medical cups is the red cross, the
international medical symbol. Oftentimes this will be seen on a flag. In
addition, paintings of medic armbands and medic bags can be found on
cups, but these are fairly scarce.

The red cross can appear in a flag or on its own.

Here is an interesting trio of cups. All have the same pattern and the same inscription in the
fan ('The pure spirit of the red cross.'). At first glance it would appear that these were made
from a single stamp. However, after close comparison, this is not the case. Look at the
position of the crane's beak--different on all three cups. Or the top of the red cross--also
different.

The body of the crane, too, has some slight differences. So it appears that the artists were
looking at a design while painting the cups.
'Discharge Commemorative'.
Inscribed 'Army Medical Unit, Discharge Commemorative'.
