Here is a sampling of the different
materials used to make military cups.
Heavy metal. Possibly steel. Gold wash in bowl and plain
reverse. Usually made prior to 1912.
Tin
Unknown metal, highly corrosive
Unglazed pottery, often used for shrine cups.
Pewter
Heavy metal. Possibly
steel. Gold wash in bowl
and brown paint on reverse
Heavy metal. Possibly steel. Plated with a silver color. Usually
made prior to 1912. This one is a Russo-Japan War cup.
ARMY: Pure silver
Lacquered wood
NAVY: Pure silver
