Manchurian (Manchukuo) flags
In 1932 the Japanese government set up Pu Yi (the Last Emperor) as the head of the newly-found
country of Manchukuo. Since this was a new country, a new flag was needed. The one chosen was
based on the
5-striped Chinese Republican flag, with the yellow stripe having been taken out and
made into the field. This yellow stripe in the Chinese flag is usually said to have represented the
Manchurians, so it is logical that this color would be made more prominent in the new flag.

This country existed from 1932 to 1945. At the end of WW2 it reverted back to China, and this flag
was abolished. Since the Japanese strongly emphasized the colonization of Manchuria prior to and
during the war, there tend to be a lot of commemorative items that display this flag.

Cups with this flag in the design have a variety of different patterns. Most often the Manchukuo flag
is paired with one of the two Japanese flags. Maps of Manchuria are often seen as well.

There are also some cups and bottles with this flag that are related more to the colonization of
Manchukuo rather than to a soldier who served in Manchuria.
