Here is a wonderful named warship cup with a map as well. The map shows the Kuril
Islands and the Sea of Okhotsk.
An anchor is near the shore of northern Hokkaido.
Note that the longitude and latitude markers are here.
Inscribed on the reverse 'Taisho 5 [1916] Surveying the Kuril Island Commemorative,
Warship Musashi.'

This is not the WW2-era Musashi.
Island cups
Although I have created pages for cups with maps on them, I felt a special category was
needed for island map cups, which are rarely found. I have a few nice examples here.
Very rare sake cup showing southeast Asia.
Labeled 'Fall of Singapore Commemorative'
and at the bottom dated: 'Showa 17 [1942],
February 15th.' This late date is hardly ever
found on military cups, and the event was
obviously quite significant.

Note the Japanese flag stuck directly into
Singapore.

On the reverse is inscribed 'Soldier's Relief
Association, Kyoto Branch.'
