The blown ink blossom design was used on a wide variety of cups both
civilian and military. Most often the design was painted in blue, but green and
pink can also be found. It appears that some of the military designs were
painted directly over the blossoms, so perhaps these blossom cups were
made to sell as is and also as a background design. When the shops had
these in stock, they could have been repainted and sold for a greater profit.
As you can see from the examples, these fukizumi blossom cups were used
in a variety of ways. See also my FAKES page for another use of these cups.
Inscribed '11th Infantry, Discharge Commemorative'.
