pose, a dragonfly, and a Rising Sun with clouds.
The eagle is a symbol for Russia.

In one of the ancient myths of Japan, the Emperor Jimmu (born 711 BCE) proclaimed that
from the sky Japan was shaped like a dragonfly. How he got high enough to see that is
unknown. Anyway, because of this comment, the dragonfly has appeared as one of the
symbols of Japan.
It is no doubt a minor symbol, overshadowed by the more powerful and visually striking
cherry blossom and Mt. Fuji (and both are much easier to draw).
The dragonfly appears on cups with no explanation, so it is possible that the reference is
well-known. However, people I talk with today have never heard of this symbol.

| Beautiful Medic Unit lacquered wood cup with original box. The design has a medic flag waving in the wind, two dragonflies (a symbol of Japan) and laurel branches. I'm not sure what the gold border decoration is. There is also an Army star in the base. Inscribed 'Conquer Russia, Victorious Return Commemorative, 7th Division Medic Auxiliary Personnel.' |
