| Here is a stunning, hand-painted cup that has a 5-striped Chinese republic flag and a Japanese Regiment Standard. Below the flags is a family crest. Inscribed 'Taisho 2 [1913], Furlough Commemorative.' Each flag also has an inscription. The Chinese flag says 'Revolution Flag' and the Japanese 'Infantry 6th Regiment.' On the reverse is a long inscription: 'North China Increase Troops Dispatch, Infantry 6th Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Army Infantry Sergeant Kato [??], Furlough Award.' |

Inscribed 'China Incident Commemorative, Ohno.' |

| The design has the flag of the Japanese-controlled puppet state of Nanking. This flag had a yellow pennant added to the Chinese Republic flag. There were three different pennant with similar inscriptions. This pennant says 'Peace and Anti-Communism.' This type of flag was used from 1940 to 1943, and it was created by the Nanking National government (Wang Ching-Wei's government 1940-1945). The pennants were dropped in February 1943, allegedly to cause confusion among the Chinese people. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION. Japanese wartime items related to Nanking are highly prized and usually rare. This is the first sake cup I have seen with such a flag. Also inscribed 'China Incident Commemorative.' |
