Birds
Lacquered wood cup with a three-legged crow,
quite rare. This is the mythical
yatagarasu, a
giant crow that guided Emperor Jimmu's army
through the mountains.
Inscribed 'Military Reservist Association, Tottori
Branch, Showa 11 [1936] June'.
Lacquered wood cup with a crow (or maybe a hawk) and rays. The bird has only
one leg, but I cannot find any one-legged birds in Japanese mythology.
Inscribed both on the cup and on the box lid 'Commemorative Sake Cup, Imperial
Year 2600 [1940], Nara Prefecture, Donation Association'.
Battle flag and crane. Inscribed '40th Infantry,
The pattern shows a hawk being smashed by an anchor.
I've never seen such a design before. Inscribed:
'Sacrifice for the Country, Departure to Russia,
Victorious Return Commemorative, Meiji 37-8 [1904-5]
Years War.'
Lacquered wood cup with hawk and map of Hokkaido in the
background.

Inscribed on the reverse '25th Infantry, Officer's Academy''.
