BADGES AND MEDALS
Although not common, one can find various badges and medals on sake cups. Sometimes the cups
were given along with the medals; sometimes they were given in place of them. Many of these cups
used  badges as purely decorative (thematic), as I suspect was done in the Grand Cordon cup
pictured below.
ARMY  BADGE: The Marksmanship Competition Badge, model
1887 (awarded up to 1938). In 1939 a new design was used.
This appears to be the
Grand Cordon of the
Supreme Order of the
Chrysanthemum, a
very high order.
ARMY BADGE: Soldiers
Model Rapid Firing Badge
Military Reservist Badge. The badge itself is
quite common. There are different sizes
and varieties of the badge (green, red,
silver, etc.), but the one on cups and bottles
is standardized.

CIVILIAN BADGE: The BUTOKU KAI  badge,
awarded for general membership. Badges
from this organization are common, but info
on the group is hard to get. I think it was
one of those pre-war, right-wing militant
groups.

BUTOKU
Unknown badge with ribbon, perhaps
civilian. It resembles the KIA cherry
blossom badge given to the deceased
soldier's family. That badge, though, had
purple ties, not a ribbon.
ARMY BADGE: The Pilot Badge, awarded in
both an Officer Class and a NCO class. I
cannot tell which one is on this cup.

NAVAL BADGE: The Torpedo Firing
Proficiency Badge, 2nd Class
Here are four different cups with
the same sort of badge. This
badge resembles both the Police
Badge and the Rising Sun award.
Since this badge is so common, I
think that it was used just
because it looked good, and
perhaps was used commonly as a
symbol of Japan because it is
supposed to be a rising sun.
However, see the cup below.
Here is a rare, genuine Kempeitai (Secret
Police) cup, from the Police Academy.
Given upon graduation. This cup also has
the Police badge, but since it is clearly
inscribed with KEMPEITAI, this badge
obviously signifies the police. The cups
above with the same badge have no such
inscriptions.
4th Class Rising Sun medal. Extremely rare
to see this on a cup.
THE ORDER OF THE GOLDEN KITE:
awarded for distinguished military service.
CIVILIAN BADGE: The AIKOKU FUJIN KAI
(Women's Patriotic Association) badge,
awarded for general membership.
