Artillery Page 3
This cup has an artillery shell and blossoms. The shell itself is hallmarked
'730 YA', which might mean 730 yards--the distance the shell can travel.

Inscribed 'Conquer Russia Commemorative' and on the reverse '2nd Army
Captured Cannon, Field Artillery Division, 1st Battalion, Sergeant Matsuoka'.
Inscribed 'Mountain Artillery 9th Regiment, Discharge
Commemorative'.
As for trees, either pine trees or cherry
trees appear. Pine trees are a
traditional symbol of endurance and
cherry trees (specifically the blossom)
is a symbol of Japan. During the
military boom, blossoms also were
used to represent Japanese soldiers,
with the falling petals representing
fallen soldiers.

To the left are pines; the right, cherry.
